Welcome to Ms. Melanie's Preschool Class

The best part of my classroom is who I share it with.

Together we can give our children the roots to grow and the wings to fly.

Messy classrooms are where the magic happens.

Newsletters & Lesson Plans

Things we're learning

We are studying our themes biweekly and will be focusing on a shape and color every 2 weeks. Along with that we are going to be learning a new letter each week.

Newsletters

Newsletters are sent out monthly. They contain students birthdays, and important dates. They also provide you with insight as to what we are doing each month in the classroom, like our focus letters, shapes, and colors. I will be keeping you up to date on what themes we will be looking into and what we are learning about our country, which this year is Italy. If a snack schedule is going to be sent home it will be included in the newsletter to help  consolidate things and keep it all in one place.

Lesson Plans

Lesson plans are based on the biweekly themes that our school has set in place. It breaks down the major portions of our day, including arrival centers, large and small group, what kind of movement we will be including as well as any specific projects we will be doing in the class. Each student may have a differentiated project all working towards the same goal based on their needs and abilities. We may also add to take away activities depending on how the day is going and if the children are needing to be challenged in their abilities. A lot of the activities done in the classroom will remain here until the end of the year when they are placed in a portfolio to show the students growth throughout the school year.

Classroom Expectations & Philosophy

I want your child to realize their potential and know they are a valuable part of our classroom community. I believe each child is a unique individual with special qualities and needs. Together, we will create a classroom environment that will recognize and respect individuality. To support each student’s learning, I will create a classroom that offers a variety of activities that meet different learning styles so that each child will have the opportunity to succeed. The children will grow and learn at their own rate. I believe parents are their children’s first and most important teachers. Therefore, I invite you to play an active role in your child’s education by talking with your child each day about their learning, reading together every night, and communicating with me.
We will emphasize the following expectations: Be Kind, Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible and making good choices. We focus on positive behaviors! Students will receive a sticker every day for making good choices. The sticker is a visual showing you that your child had a good day at school! This is a great opportunity for you to help your child practice conversation and language skills by talking to them about their day. When good choices are not being made, we will talk with your child about what he/she could have done differently. If the behavior continues, we have a “Waiting Chair” where children will go to wait until they have regained their composure and are ready to make appropriate choices.
